Where the numbers come from

Our figures are drawn from named, dated sources including Edelman, the US Federal Trade Commission, the European Commission, BBB National Programs, Trustpilot, Getty Images, Jumio, iProov, Checkr, Bazaarvoice, and Baymard Institute. Where a number is a projection or a combined estimate rather than a single measurement, we label it as directional.

The full evidence base, with interpretation and citations, is in the two reports.
